Appropriate Pressure During Massage:
How much pressure a client needs is a very subjective thing. As a therapist I will go into the tissue until I feel a resistance and then push it a little further checking in with the client for feedback.
Good Pain:
Hurts but feels good, is within the client’s tolerance & they feel a sense of relief within that sore muscle.
Bad Pain:
Hurts but does not feel good & often causes the client to tense up getting little to no relief at all.
Too much pressure can potentially damage the tissue, cause bruising and trauma.
Too little pressure can be annoying & ineffective.
Communication is key and it is important to let the therapist know if it is too much or too little.
An experienced therapist can provide an effective treatment without going too much pressure & able to provide a deeper pressure when required.
